FAQ

Common questions before getting started.

Do insurance plans cover dietitians?

Most private insurance companies will cover dietitian services. Unfortunately, I do not accept insurance at this time.

Are appointments virtual?

Yes, appointments are virtual. However, if you prefer in-person appointments I can offer those on request.

Do you provide meal plans?

Rather than providing rigid meal plans, I prefer to create personalized meal “guides” that are flexible, realistic, and designed to fit your lifestyle. In my experience, highly structured meal plans are often difficult to maintain long-term and can sometimes create an “all-or-nothing” relationship with food.

My goal is to help you build the skills, knowledge, and confidence to make food choices that nourish and sustain you while supporting your health and wellness goals. Instead of telling you exactly what to eat every day, I work collaboratively with you to understand your current eating patterns, routines, preferences, culture, schedule, and challenges.

From there, I provide practical recommendations, ideas for additions or substitutions, meal and snack structure guidance, and individualized strategies that feel sustainable for real life. This approach allows for flexibility, enjoyment, and adaptability because healthy eating should work with your life, not control it.

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral. You can contact me directly.

What is a weight-neutral approach?

A weight-neutral approach focuses on improving health behaviours, nutrition habits, and overall well-being rather than making weight the sole measure of success. This means we work on sustainable changes such as balanced eating patterns, blood sugar management, movement, sleep, stress management, and building a healthier relationship with food without shame, guilt, or rigid rules.

Being weight-neutral does not mean ignoring weight completely or suggesting that health doesn’t matter. It also does not mean you are “not allowed” to have body composition or aesthetic goals. Instead, it means we explore the bigger picture: your physical health, mental well-being, lifestyle, relationship with food, and the motivations driving behaviour change.

Do you work on weight loss?

Yes, I can absolutely support clients who have weight loss or body composition goals. My approach, however, is not focused on quick fixes, restrictive diets, or rigid food rules. I do not believe in “all-or-nothing” approaches or making promises about a specific amount of weight loss within a certain timeframe.

Instead, I focus on helping clients build realistic, sustainable nutrition and lifestyle habits that support long-term health and well-being. This may include working on areas such as meal structure, blood sugar balance, movement habits, sleep, stress management, emotional eating patterns, and overall nutrition literacy.

Before pursuing weight loss goals, I also take time to assess a person’s relationship with food, body image, and eating behaviours to ensure that focusing on weight changes is supportive and appropriate for them at that time. For some individuals, dieting history, disordered eating patterns, or food-related anxiety may need to be addressed first in order to build a healthier and more sustainable foundation.

My goal is to help clients improve their health in a way that feels balanced, evidence-based, and maintainable for real life, not just for a short period of time.

What platform do you use for virtual care?

Zoom.
